Video Games Aren’t Sinful, They Are Just Stupid

03/06/2011

Ah, Mark Driscoll. I’ve learned a lot from you. I’m probably still a Christian today due to your teachings, as well as other men of God like Matt Chandler. I owe you a debt that can’t easily be repaid.

But, you know what? Not everyone has all the answers. Not everyone is always right. Sometimes, people can be really dumb and foolish.

I appreciate this word here, Mark. It’s good. Video games, ultimately, are stupid. But then so are a lot of things, including movies, music, TV, art, literature…basically anything creative that does not equal to a 1:1 effort in the Kingdom of Heaven. And yet God gave us all those things, he used poetry, creativity, and art in the creation of this world and the scriptures. We can’t just throw those things out, and feel we must go win each street corner for Jesus. That’s not our job, and that’s not something he’s called us to do.

But it’s still a good word, Mark. Thank you for the encouragement.

Agreed. My friend Drew Dixon wrote a pretty good response to Driscoll’s games-are-stupid claim:
